Feel like not following Feelings?

“…the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.”

James 1:6 (NIV)

The context of this passage is about asking God for wisdom or direction. We start out in life having our parents guide us in our decision making; what we’ll have for dinner, when to go to bed… My major decision as a little kid was which cartoon I’m going to watch on Saturday morning.

Slowly, we become independent of our parents and the burden of choices in life fall on our shoulders. We can go-with-the-flow and let our culture and society be the basis of our choices. Or we can seek God and ask Him for the wisdom we need (James 1:5). Then there are times we do both, and base decisions on our “feelings”. Sometimes we “feel” spiritual and we go with that. Other times we do what we just “feel” like doing, even though we know it is against the grain of our relationship with God.

“Feelings” and emotions vary daily, hourly or even moment by moment in some cases; ‘blown and tossed  by the wind’. They are a terrible gage for decision making.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, don’t let my “feelings” and peer pressure be in charge of me. I know You have an abundant and fulfilling plan, give me the strength and wisdom to live it out. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
