Asking us to ask Him

“Give us today our daily bread.”

Matthew 6:11 (NIV)

Jesus is giving the people an example of what to pray. We know this as “The Lord’s Prayer”(Matthew 6:9-13). Right in the middle of this famous prayer He mentions¬†‘our daily bread’. This seems to represent our needs to exist on a daily basis; our food, our income, our support systems.

He is basically asking us to ask Him to take care of us (that sentence can twist your brain). He wants us to work hard, be responsible, yet ultimately, depend on Him. He loves when we ask Him to take care of any and all our needs.

Heavenly Father, remind me to not be self-dependent, instead rely on You for all my needs. Thank you that I can work hard, yet relax in Your care. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
