The two big “O”‘s

“Consider it joyful whenever you encounter trials of any sort or fall into various temptations. Be assured that the trial and proving of your faith bring out endurance and patience”  James 1:2-3 (Amplified Bible)

Do we view trials, hard times and temptations, as OBSTACLES in the way of our happiness. Or are they actually OPPORTUNITIES for our growth and development?

We are told to ‘consider it joyful’, a strange response to trials and temptations. We would rather all situations went very smoothly. We would rather that no one got in our way. But life is filled with disappointments and there will always be those who will be irritants to us. We cannot rule and order our lives, as we would have it.

If we did, we would become spoiled and pompous. Wanting all circumstances to yield to our gratification. Wanting everybody to bow and submit. Doesn’t happen that way. And so for our development, trials and temptations are necessary.

So the next time something goes wrong, ask the question, “Is this an OBSTACLE or an OPPORTUNITY?“. And keep in mind, not only can complaining turn these OPPORTUNITIES back into OBSTACLES, but also complaining can infect us with debilitating bitterness.

Heavenly Father, help me not to be angry at situations and people if they go against my expectation. Give me the strength to use and endure those “OPPORTUNTIES” so that I can grow and mature. Turn my complaining into praying. Thank you for the blessings that will follow. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
