Never, ever worth it

“He is able to help those who are being tempted”  Hebrews 2:18 (NIV)

Why would God offer help to those who are being tempted? First, He realizes that temptations can overpower us. Second, He knows that falling into bad choices can really damage our conscience, our relationships, our inner peace, our emotional well-being, and our ability to tap into all the fulfillment that God has for us.

I was watching Spongebob and his best friend, Patrick, justify stealing a balloon. They grabbed it and ran. They were excited about all the fun they are going to have, and it really won’t matter that they stole it because they will return it when they are done. In the midst of the excitement, the balloon popped. Their plan of returning it with no consequences literally blew up on them.

“Everyone else is doing it”, “what’s the big deal, my friends do worse things then this”, “I can’t resist how good this makes me feel”, “God’s not really real”, are just a few of the mental missiles that war in our heads.

An important sentence to memorize before you enter this fleshly war zone brewing in our brains is this; Sin is never worth it! Before the football is snapped on the ‘temptation line of scrimmage’, be convinced that bad choices are not worth it! Don’t try to fight through the onslaught of justifying a poor decision, it’s hard to win. Just say, SIN IS NEVER WORTH IT. ALMIGHTY GOD, GIVE ME THE STRENGTH TO TURN AWAY.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, help me to get “sin is never worth it” programmed in my heart and mind. Give me the ability to ask for Your strength to turn away. Thank You for the blessings that will follow. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
