Freshly Plucked

“When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth” Genesis 8:11 (NIV)

I like the wording “freshly plucked”. The olive leaf wasn’t floating around in the flood waters. It was “freshly plucked”. The waters were finally going down!

The Great Flood was a major event. What lead up to it was that God seemed so frustrated with all the sin and immorality on earth that He decided to start over. Let’s find a few faithful people, teach them to build a huge boat, grab the animals, then wipe the rest out. We can almost rename “The Great Flood”, “The Great Start Over”.

We need in our lives the ability to start over. I know when I have made a mess of relationships, made bad choices, or got myself far away from walking with God, that I need a Great Start Over. God tells us to go to Him, admit our mistakes, then start over. He says many times in the bible that He has “unfailing love” for us.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, remind me to keep going to You for “start overs”. Thank You that I can’t earn Your love, because I have it all already. Help me to seek Your “freshly plucked” olive leaf. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
