Search for significance

“The LORD takes delight in His people; He crowns the humble with victory”  Psalm 149:4 (NIV)

It seems that all of us have an internal desire to be significant in some way. We want to “be” or “do” something important. We need to feel needed.

It’s amazing all the different causes people get on board with. “Save the whales”, “Dog neutering”, “Mothers against drunk drivers”,  most major diseases, disabilities… All good. People want to be a part of something bigger than themselves.

Look at all the sports fans. I truly think that some feel that they are actually on the teams they are pulling for. For instance, if you talk to a Steelers fan, they refer to their team as “we”; ie, “We had a hard time defending the Packers passing game”. That person probably runs a 9.4 forty, and might be able to do 5 push-ups.

God wants us to take our plans, goals, desires, efforts, jobs… and ask Him to live through us in accomplishing victory. Place them at His feet and ask Him to use us as one of His people to fulfill our passions. The bottom line is that we are His. We belong to the biggest cause on earth, God’s eternal cause. Most other causes need to fall under that eternal umbrella.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You that You look at me and think I’m significant, because I am Yours. Remind me to place all I do under Your purpose of helping others and pointing them towards You. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
