Idiots can build our character

“we rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope” Romans 5:3-4 (NIV)

I was dropping off a friend at his car in the airport parking garage. The rule is that if you drop someone off and get to the pay gate within 10 minutes, there is no charge.

I quickly unloaded my friend and drove up to the exit pay booth. In front of me was an older couple that were apparently having a hard time with the gate person. The clock was ticking, so I got out of my car to see what the problem was.

The couple was unsuccessfully searching through the piles of junk in their car for the ticket they had misplaced. After an irritatingly long wait, they grudgingly paid the fee with a lost ticket penalty.

It was late at night, I was tired from driving 8 hours, I was frustrated with the delay, needless to say I was in a weak state. I pulled up to the gate person, who could barely communicate in English, and she said in some broken accent,”that will be three dollars please”. I argued that I have been sitting right here for the last 15 minutes. She could only repeat, “No, no. You are past ten minutes”.

I thought I was in a Seinfeld episode. I was shocked and mad. I hate long, inconvenient lines, and incompetence. A definate weakness of mine.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, use these situations to build my ‘character’. Give me the strength to mature through “opportunies” such as these. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
