Sin got trumped

“Have mercy on me, O God, because of Your unfailing love. Because of Your great compassion, blot out the stain of my sins”                    Psalm 51:1(NLT)

I’m intrigued with the whole concept of ‘mercy’. The definition of mercy has to do with holding back the punishment that we have rightfully earned.

Basically God hates the wrongful things we say, think and do (sin). Not because they are just “wrong”, but because He loves us so much that He doesn’t want us the erode who He wants us to be, decay the inner joy and peace that He longs to give us, or ambush relationships that we so desperately need.

Our sins deserved to be punished. Our wrongful actions deserve to damage who we are. But…

God’s ‘unfailing love’ is greater than all of our sin. His ‘great compassion’ trumps the fact that we deserve to live in guilt.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You so much that I can “admit it and quit it” over and over again. I hand You my sin. I’ll keep starting over, because of Your unfailing love and great compassion. Blot it out so that I can be free to flourish. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
