“Lord, make me tic”

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven” Matthew 6:19-20 (NASB)

There are times when we focus totally on impressing others for building our own popularity. Or focus on accumulating money to merely get more, better and impressive “stuff”.

Of course it’s not wrong to be popular or have nice things. But I think Jesus was addressing our focus and motives in this verse.

The challenge is to figure out ways to have good relationships, and use our stuff to influence and point others toward God. We want people to know us so to think, “what makes him tic?”. We need to help others and be a givers, not to gain popularity or strokes, but because that’s what He wants.

If we focus on ‘treasures in heaven’, He promises to take care of us now, before we even get there. Read the rest of this chapter and you will see that He will meet all our needs, inside and out.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, help me focus on ‘treasures in heaven’ and not selfish gain. Thank You for the blessings that will follow. Allow me to allow You to “make me tic”. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
