“David said to Goliath, “You come against me with sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down”                           1Samuel 17:45-46(NIV)

I love hearing about the events in David’s life, especially his encounter with Goliath. David didn’t care that the dude was real tall and built like a TV exercise equipment model.

I was always a little disappointed with this actual battle. In movies, the climax is a lengthy fight screen with slow motion kicks, chairs broken over heads, scrambles for a dropped weapons… But this fight was over in a matter of minutes. An exchange of words, David pulls out a sling, drills the giant in the head, GAME OVER!

Think about it, the battle wasn’t the actual battle. The real battle was to just “enter the battle”.

Accepting Christ, filling our minds with His bible, talking to Him in prayer, making right choices, helping others, all are steps to “entering the battle”, because it goes against social and inner pressures to just fit in or glide through life.

Like David, we can have ‘the God of the armies of Israel’ behind all we attempt to be and do, if we take these steps to “enter the battle”.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are ‘the Almighty Lord’ that will impact and empower my life as I strive to get in Your bible, pray, and help others. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
