A good addiction

“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God”  Matthew 5:8 (NIV)

When I hear the word ‘pure’, I think of clean spring water or fresh snow.

Yet when I think of my heart as becoming pure, I feel I have a better chance of running a 4.1 second 4o yard sprint (that is world record material and my speed is closer to 4 minutes!)

As I understand God more, He is merely looking for us to walk in the right direction. He doesn’t expect us to be sinless, just to work on sinning less. But why?!

Today’s verse give us a hint. As we strive to please Him and continually confess our wrongs, we can begin to ‘see God’. In other words, understand and experience God.

It’s like a good addiction. The more I experience His peace and presence in my life, the more I crave it. It’s almost like eating Oreo cookies. Once I have a few, that taste gets going in my mouth and before I come to my senses I have devoured a whole sleeve.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, help me strive to be ‘pure in heart’, so that I can ‘see’, taste, understand and experience You. Thank You for the inner peace and blessing You long to pour into me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
