Are you kidding me?!
When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.” Judges 6:12 (NIV)
God was commissioning Gideon to lead His people to take back there freedom from the nasty Midianites.
When I first read this I was picturing Gideon as this Arnold Schwarzenegger-like dude. But Gideon’s reply in verse 15 tells us sometimes else; “Pardon me, my lord,” Gideon replied, “but how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family”.
He was basically retorting; “Say what! You can’t possibly be talking to me. Not only is my family an unimpressive and unnoticed bunch. I am kinda the loser of my family. Lord, no way You want this Charlie Brown to lead an uprising.”
God’s reply makes this my favorite story in history. Verse 16; The LORD answered, “I will be with you, and you will strike down all the Midianites, leaving none alive.”
The Lord wasn’t teaming up with Bruce Willis or Vin Diesel. He was asking someone along the lines of Napoleon Dynamite’s brother, Kip, to lead. How would this be possible? Because God will be with him!
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, when I am feeling insignificant and weak, remind me that Gideon conquered the enemy because You teamed up with him. Team up with me today. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
