Unlock the Cage of Greed
“Then Jesus said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions” Luke 12:15 (NIV)
‘Greed’ is an interesting word. Wikipedia defines it; “an excessive desire to possess wealth or goods with the intention to keep it for one’s self”.
It’s easy to get into the routine of going to work and thinking, “well, if I’m going to spend all this time at a job making money, I deserve to get as much stuff as possible”. Accumulating things helps us justify and feel better about the time we spend laboring.
I feel that God understands that to a point, and having nice things probably isn’t bad. But, I do know this; as soon as I started thinking less of what I could “gather” for myself, and more about how I could help others with my extra time and money, is when I felt a release.
A release from a rut that was absorbing me. A release to enjoy my co-workers, friends and family so much more. It was like I was let out of a cage that kept getting more and more crowded with me and my stuff.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, thank You for the things I have. Help me to not focus on “getting”, but giving of myself so that You can meet my needs and release me from the cage of greed. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
