From Father to Daddy
“…the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father” Romans 8:15 (NIV)
When we accept Christ (see “Start the Victory” atop victory247.org) the Holy Spirit comes into us. Then, as this verse points out, we are ‘adopted’ by God as one of His children. The second part of the verse drives home the type of relationship that we are adopted into.
I remember watching a famous movie, “The Sound of Music”. At the beginning, the father, Captain Von Trapp was very proper with his house full of children. He wasn’t mean to them, just strict and distant. Then he meets free spirited Maria (I had the biggest crush on the young Julie Andrews for years because of this role).
Predictable, yet classic, the stuffy love striken Captain melts into a soft hearted and very relational “daddy”.
The word ‘Abba’ means just that; daddy.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, thank you that You want to be close to me. Help me to talk to You and learn from You as a child to a loving ‘daddy’. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
