The training of suffering

“we know that suffering produces perseverance”  Romans 5:3 (NIV)

A difficulty, hard time or hurtful experience can make us stronger. If we depend on God to teach us and pull us through, then ‘sufferings’ will develop ‘perseverance’ ; strength to keep going in the midst of adversity. 

The athlete understands that the ability to run long distances or play a sport like basketball with full effort takes training. Training is continually going through the ‘suffering’ of making our body work harder than it “feels” like doing. The result of THE TRAINING OF SUFFERING is elevated performance.

In the same way, there are twists and turns in our experiences that hurt, stress us out and shake us up. That is life’s training.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, remind me to use sufferings to strengthen me. Especially when I don’t feel like it, help me to talk to You when I am hurting. Thank You that You will take care of me. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
