“he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed”

Proverbs 11:25 (NIV)

It was a cruel 90+ degree day as I stood at the second base position in an all dirt infield (old age removed me from shortstop). Just as I was feeling sorry for myself and starting to question why I was still playing in softball tournaments, the verse that I was studying flashed into my thoughts.

I decided to put it into practice. I verbally began ‘refreshing’ my teammates with words of encouragement and motivation. After our 6th game, we had fought our way through loser bracket to win the championship.

As I reflected on the day I realized that my words were returned to me and I had plenty of energy to finish. Vicious leg cramps and exhaustion settled in when I got home, but I will never forget how God kept His promise to ‘refresh’ me when I ‘refreshed others’.

PRAYER FOR TODAY

Heavenly Father, remind me to say words of encouragement to those around me. I want You to take care of me more than “me taking care of me”. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
