The Wise Old Bird

“Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry”

James 1:19 (NIV)

This is some fantastic, practical advice. God wants use to stop thinking just of ourselves and reacting. We need to learn to ‘listen’. Ask good questions instead of doling out our answers. When we are just waiting our turn to talk, we can’t completely hear the feelings and intent behind what others are saying.

If we want to encourage someone; ‘listen’. True friendship and true conversation can’t exist without it!

I once hear a poem that goes like this…

“A wise old owl sat on an oak; The more he saw the less he spoke; The less he spoke the more he heard; Why aren’t we like that wise old bird?”

Heavenly Father, help me to develop my “listening muscles”. I know my blessing from You will increase as I bless others. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
