I did it, and I was wrong
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness”
1 John 1:9 (NIV)
As a high school principal, it is very important to ask students who are sent to my office, “what did you do wrong?” If they give excuses and make things up, I ask again, “what did you do wrong?” If they start the confession with, “I guess I…” I then will say, “don’t guess, just tell me what you did wrong?”
I make sure they know that this honest confession is more important than avoiding the consequences.
Now, I’m not sure if God works exactly that way, but I do know that it is priceless to see the relief on the faces of students who confess their specific offense. I always praise them for their courage.
PRAYER FOR TODAY
Heavenly Father, help me to have the courage to confess without excuses and admit my specific wrongs. Thank You for the freedom and change that develops when I do. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
